Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy has evolved throughout my teaching career. This evolution is due to my observations and experiences in the fields of flute performance, education, and entrepreneurship.

As a teacher it is my responsibility to set expectations high—sometimes higher than the students believe they can achieve at first. I aim to tailor best practices to each student and learning style through sensitive one-on-one feedback in lessons and by including a variety of teaching approaches in the studio. It is always my responsibility as instructor to provide students with feedback of the highest quality and utility. I work to engage and challenge students throughout their entire course of learning and to push them beyond their old boundaries to realize their potential.

It is important for students to understand that learning is a process of change, and for some that process may be longer and more comprehensive than others. I have developed semester-by-semester rubrics which act as a guide to engagement students with daily tone and technical exercises, etudes, ensemble and solo repertoire, and literature as the basis of learning. In addition I use methodical approaches to body use and tone production for audience engagement, effective performances, and musical growth.

Private Lessons

As a guide on the journey to new heights, I urge students to set the bar high and search for their own voice, artistic strengths, and personal development. It is ultimately the student’s responsibility to attain the level of advancement and execution of any given techniques. I aim to provide all of the necessary tools to help the students better understand the task at hand and further enhance their level of musicianship.

Lessons are available on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Occasional private sessions for upcoming auditions, projects, or events are also available. Please contact for rates and availability.
